It is September which means I am organising the godwit (kuaka) celebration in my capacity as voluntary spokesperson for Friends of the Motueka Estuaries. You will be able to hear my views on the environment and how we need to protect it on Fresh FM this morning where I am interviewed with Richard Hicks on “Fresh Start Monday”. My interview will air today (12th Sept) at 7.40am.
My involvement with Friends of Motueka Estuaries is to promote and protect a special part of our environment in Tasman which is the estuaries. I have worked hard in my role as spokesperson (a voluntary undertaking) to connect with other interested groups including DOC, members of Te Ātiawa, Ngati Rarua (and associated groups) and Birding NZ members. I am currently putting together our event this year which is a Dawn Blessing. Date: Friday 30th Sept 2016 Time: 6.30am -7.30am Place: Motueka Old Wharf, Located on Motueka Quay Stay for complimentary soup and buns (courtesy of DOC). This morning (Monday 12th Sept) I am also putting up a display at the Richmond Branch of the Tasman District Library. It will highlight the unique features of our environment and show how what we do as humans, impacts on all parts of the ecological chain. It is my aim, if elected, to work together with community groups. I know from personal experience these groups all have members who are highly skilled, enthusiastic, and dedicated to pursuing sustainable ideas. With a change in culture at council I think we can progress Tasman and be a leader in environmental thinking.
