Where to vote:
Tasman District Council will have polling boxes at the four TDC offices (Richmond, Motueka, Takaka and Murchison) from 20 September to 11 October.
Whereas in previous years special votes were only issued in Richmond during this time period, this year election officials will be able to take special votes in the Richmond, Motueka and Takaka offices between 20 Sep-11 Oct.
On the morning of Saturday 12 October elections staff will be working at the Richmond, Motueka and Takaka Libraries, where people can make special votes. The ballot boxes will be moved to the three libraries on the Saturday, so people can drop off their complete voting papers in them.
If people visit any of the four Tasman District Council office buildings on the morning of 12 October, the buildings won’t be open but they’ll still be able to post their completed voting papers through the afterhours slot, which elections staff will clear at 12 noon. Posters will be put on the doors to each building, explaining special votes can be issued at the library.
The information booklet accompanying voting papers will include a QR code people can scan to find the location of their nearest NZ postbox.

Information on Accessible Formats
This year Tasman District Council has organised for candidates to be filmed reading out their 150 word written profile statements. This was optional, and not all candidates took up this option, however most did. The video statements will be captioned and published online before voting begins (i.e. before 20 September). The weblink to the videos is included on the cover of the candidate information booklet that will be posted out to everyone along with their voting papers.
All information that people need to know about the Tasman District Council election is currently available on the website: www.tasman.govt.nz/link/elections
Tasman District Council is also advertising information about the election via Newsline, social media channels and radio. Public notices relating to the election are published in the Nelson Mail.
If you require special assistance with filling out voting forms then you can contact electoral officials who can provide an assisted voting service during the voting period (20 September to 12 October).
All electoral officials have signed a separate declaration in the presence of a JP about their promise to conduct elections in a fair manner and not disclose information to others etc.
People requiring assistance can bring their voting papers into Council’s offices in Richmond, Motueka or Takaka during opening hours and ask an electoral official to assist them to vote.
As only one official is available at both the Motueka and Takaka offices, it is recommended phoning ahead to make an appointment.
Three staff are available at the Richmond office, so no appointment should be necessary. Please note that on the morning of Saturday 12 October, electoral officials will be working at Council libraries in these three towns to take special votes and assisted votes (Council offices are closed on weekends).
This assisted voting service offers an alternative for those who would otherwise rely on e.g. a family member or friend to complete their voting form for them. As electoral officials, we are not allowed to disclose how people vote, so your vote remains confidential in that regard.
Further information about assisted voting is provided on the Tasman District Council website and in s34 of the Local Elections Regulations:
